Art Lessons

On this page I am going to post our art lessons that we accomplish throughout the year with some explanations for each.....

This lesson had many steps.  The students first created their background by tearing different strips of construction paper and gluing it onto the card stock.  They then traced two different size circles and cut them out.   The idea was for them to create a sense of depth within the picture by creating one of the trees smaller as if it was set back.  They then glues their circles on and painted their trunks and branches.  Next they used a q-tip to dot their leaves.  Some students wanted to put leaves on the ground and falling.  Very clever!
I love how although all students are using the same concepts, none of their work comes out the same.

This lesson was about creating depth.  The students had a few small pumpkins on the table and were asked to choose one to draw.  We then used construction paper crayons to start at the top and layer different colors, from lightest to darkest, working our way down the pumpkin.  They did very well with this concept.  They then needed to look at their pumpkin and create the shadow depending on where their point of view was with their pumpkin.

This art lesson had a few parts.  The original idea was from a photographers website.... I thought surely we could pull this off! The children had to think of a scene they could create by using chalk and then be able to become a part of it.  It was challenging at first while they had to understand the angle at which the scene had to be in order for them to be in it.  They all did a great job in the end....Very creative!
They were each given an equal part in the driveway to create their masterpiece.

McKenna sitting in a field of flowers.

Makaela driving her car.

Aidan was a superhero flying over a city with his cape.

Christian was a bat in a cave hanging upside down.

They all worked together to help a student who took on a masterpiece larger than we had time for

Hailey was a flying creature that just jumped off of a mountain into the stars.

Devon was surfing in a huge wave.

Gabe was running from the volcano that had just erupted.

Payten was sunning on the beach with her beach towel.

Madison was swinging from vines in a forest with the monkeys.

Graciela was kicking a soccerball on her soccer field.

This project came out really neat.  This was a project on creating a 3D objects.   They first traced their hands and then had to draw horizontal lines across with a permanent marker, making sure they bumped up on their finger, hands, and wrists.

They then colored in between the lines.
